Arlene is a senior investment management executive and corporate leader with a two-decade track record of success leading a diverse range of global and U.S. portfolio management teams for one of America’s top-ranked money managers.

Arlene began her investment career in 1978 at The Boston Company investment research group working as a programmer of quantitative investment algorithms.  In 1980 she moved to the plan sponsor side of the business working as an analyst for the pension fund at New England Telephone.

Most of Arlene’s career was at State Street Global Advisors.  She began her career there as a portfolio manager responsible for 15 portfolios.  She built and managed the team and new products that firmly established SSgA’s U.S. passive portfolio business.  She also played a role in development of industry’s first Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) and developed SSgA’s renowned tax-efficient market capture strategy.

Arlene moved to active quantitative investing in 1997 and started and built SSgA’s business focused on quantitatively managed, low-risk active equity portfolios designed to track and outperform benchmarks – appealing to large risk-averse clients such as pension funds.  Finally, Arlene led a team of more than 50 portfolio managers in seven countries, responsible for SSgA’s quantitatively managed active equity investment portfolios with up to $160 billion in assets. She served on SSGA’s Executive Management Team with CEO responsible for company strategy and policies.

She earned a BA in Statistics from the University of Chicago, an MS in Informational Science from the University of Chicago and an MBA from Boston University.  She was a member of the Investment Board of The Tuckerman Group, a member of the Investment Committee, and the Chair of the Capacity Committee.  She is currently a Director of the Geode Capital Management Board.
